FDJ United (formerly Kindred)

By Johan Ekström · Fact-checked by Linnea Dahl against Spelinspektionen's licence register · Updated 19 October 2026

FDJ United (formerly Kindred)

Four sites in Sweden currently count as an FDJ United casino: Unibet, Maria Casino, Otto Casino and Storspelare. The brands come from Kindred Group, which the French company FDJ bought during 2024. The big change for Swedish players came in 2025–2026: all four sites previously shared a single licence, but each now has its own licensed company.

Here we go through who owns what, which companies hold the licences and how the change affects bonuses, accounts and gambling limits. The information is based on decisions by Spelinspektionen (the Swedish Gambling Authority), the companies’ websites and the group’s press releases.

The group at a glance

Kindred Group still exists as a company, but it is now a subsidiary of FDJ United. The Swedish licensed companies are based in Malta.

The table shows the position after the licence changes. None of the four sites currently shares a licence holder with another site in the group.

That Storspelare has received its own licence is confirmed by FDJ United’s affiliate programme, but we have not been able to verify the company’s name and licence number in a first-hand source. Otto Casino is the youngest brand and launched in 2024.

Bingo.se was previously part of the shared licence. Whether the site is still active in Sweden after the split, and if so under which company, has not been confirmed.

The licences are not identical either. Unibet’s licence with Kaprifol covers both commercial online gaming and betting, while Maria Casino and Otto Casino are licensed for commercial online gaming. That explains why sports betting is only available on some of the sites.

Changes of ownership

  • 11 October 2024: First settlement date of FDJ’s public offer for Kindred. FDJ then owns 91.77 per cent.
  • October 2024: After an extended acceptance period, FDJ owns 98.60 per cent of Kindred.
  • 11 November 2024: Last day of trading in Kindred’s depositary receipts on Nasdaq Stockholm.
  • 6 March 2025: FDJ changes its name to FDJ United.
  • 16 September 2025: Otto Casino moves to its own licence.
  • 23 October 2025: Unibet moves to Kaprifol Services Limited.
  • 20 January 2026: Storspelare moves to its own licence.

Maria Casino has also switched to its own company, Tussilago Limited. With each change the old accounts were closed and players had to register again. Until then, all the Swedish sites had been under one and the same licensed company, Spooniker Ltd.

Sanctions from Spelinspektionen

The decisions concerning the group’s Swedish operations were aimed at Spooniker Ltd, the former shared licensed company. The company still exists and was a party to a ruling as recently as July 2026, even though the brands have now moved to new companies.

  • The bonus case: On 16 March 2020, Spelinspektionen issued a warning and a penalty fee for prohibited bonuses and lotteries. The fee was originally 100 million kronor and was reduced to 30 million kronor on appeal. The Supreme Administrative Court did not grant leave to appeal, and according to industry media the decision became final in December 2024.
  • Money laundering: On 5 May 2025, Spooniker Ltd received a warning and a penalty fee of 10,000,000 kronor for shortcomings in customer due diligence, which Spelinspektionen judged to be serious and repeated. The Administrative Court in Linköping rejected the appeal on 2 July 2026 (case 4340-25).

In April 2026, industry media reported that Kaprifol Services, which runs Unibet, had been placed under closer monitoring of how it follows up players’ deposits. That is not a sanction. The decisions in full are published by Spelinspektionen.

What it means for you as a player

The licence change is the most important development for you. The bonus rule in Spellagen, the Gambling Act, Chapter 14, Section 9, applies per licence holder: a company may only offer a bonus the first time you play any of its games. When all the sites were under Spooniker, the company itself stated that the welcome bonus was paid out once, regardless of which of the websites the customer registered on. With four separate companies, that link no longer applies. Read more about how the bonus rules in Sweden are applied.

New account, new limits

Because the old accounts were closed at the switch, you now have a separate account at each site you use. This also means that deposit limits, which you must set per day, week and month, are set with each company separately. If you want to raise a limit, it takes at least 72 hours before the new level applies.

According to Unibet’s website, you can set a deposit limit there, exclude yourself and follow your gambling via a player profile. The tools required by law, such as a deposit limit, a self-test and self-exclusion, must be available at all four companies.

Spelpaus, the national self-exclusion register, is not affected by the split. An exclusion there applies to every operator with a Swedish licence, and therefore to all four sites. You can reach Stödlinjen, the helpline, on 020-819 100 if you want to talk to someone about your gambling.

How to identify the right licensed company

If a text about an FDJ United casino names Spooniker Ltd, the information is out of date. Look at the site’s footer instead: it should name Kaprifol, Tussilago or Gullviva for Unibet, Maria Casino and Otto Casino respectively. For Storspelare it is safest to search for the brand in Spelinspektionen’s register, as the company name has not been confirmed in a first-hand source.

FDJ United is not the only group to have split up its Swedish licences. In our overview of gambling networks you can see what other owners have done.

Frequently asked questions

Which casinos does FDJ United own in Sweden?

FDJ United owns Unibet, Maria Casino, Otto Casino and Storspelare in Sweden via Kindred Group. Since 2025–2026, each brand has had its own licensed company. The status of Bingo.se after the split has not been confirmed.

Are Kindred and FDJ United the same company?

Kindred Group is now a subsidiary of FDJ United. FDJ bought Kindred during 2024 and changed its name to FDJ United in March 2025. Kindred was delisted from Nasdaq Stockholm in November 2024.

Why was my old Unibet account closed?

On 23 October 2025, Unibet moved to a new licensed company, Kaprifol Services Limited. According to reports citing Spelinspektionen, a Swedish licence cannot be transferred between companies, so the old accounts were closed and players had to register again.

Can I get a bonus at both Unibet and Maria Casino?

Unibet and Maria Casino now have different licence holders. Because the bonus rule applies per licence holder, a bonus with one company does not in itself prevent an offer with the other. Check the current terms on each site.

Does Spelpaus apply to all FDJ United sites?

Yes. Spelpaus applies to every operator with a Swedish licence, regardless of owner or licensed company. Deposit limits, however, are set on each site separately.
