evoke (formerly 888)

If you play at an evoke casino in Sweden, it is either Mr Green or one of the 888 sites. The group evoke plc, formerly 888 Holdings, has two licence holders in Sweden: Mr Green Limited and 888 Sweden Limited. What sets evoke apart from many other groups is that the 888 sites share one and the same licensed company, which affects the bonus rules.
The group is also facing a change of ownership. A takeover by Bally’s Intralot has been approved by shareholders but not completed, so the information on this page should be checked again once the deal is done.
The group at a glance
evoke is listed in London and has its registered office in Gibraltar. William Hill is also part of the group, but we have not found a William Hill casino with a Swedish licence.

Mr Green is licensed for both online gaming and betting. The brand was founded in 2007, and we have found no other Swedish brand under its licensed company. A decision by Spelinspektionen (the Swedish Gambling Authority) from December 2025 names 888 Sweden Limited as the licence holder for the websites 888.se, 888casino.se, 888sport.se and 888poker.se.
Mr Green was started by Fredrik Sidfalk together with Henrik Bergquist and Mikael Pawlo. Spelinspektionen’s 2025 decision mentions only the Mr Green brand under the licence, and the addresses mrgreen.com, .de and .dk send Swedish visitors to mrgreen.se. We were not able to check the 888 sites directly in October 2026, so it is sensible to confirm in the register that they still accept Swedish players.
Changes of ownership
- January 2019: William Hill buys Mr Green.
- 2022: 888 Holdings buys William Hill’s international business, and Mr Green comes with the deal.
- 2024: 888 Holdings changes its name to evoke plc.
- 5 June 2026: Bally’s Intralot and evoke agree on an all-share takeover valued at about 243 million pounds.
- August 2026: evoke’s shareholders approve the deal with 99.63 per cent of the votes.
- September 2026: Bally’s Intralot’s shareholders approve the deal with 99.585 per cent.
The deal is awaiting regulatory approvals and court sanction and is expected to complete in the fourth quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027. Analysts have mentioned Mr Green as a possible candidate for sale after the deal, but no such sale has been announced.
Sanctions from Spelinspektionen
The decision we have found concerns Mr Green Limited. On 23 August 2021, Spelinspektionen issued a warning and a penalty fee for shortcomings in anti-money-laundering work and in the duty of care. The fee was reduced on appeal, and when the Supreme Administrative Court did not grant leave to appeal, the decision became final in December 2024. Sources give different amounts, so we do not quote a figure here.
In April 2026, industry media reported that Mr Green had been placed under closer follow-up of players’ deposits. That is not a sanction. If you want to read the original decisions, they are published by Spelinspektionen.
What it means for you as a player
The bonus rule in Spellagen, the Gambling Act, Chapter 14, Section 9, states that a licence holder may only offer a bonus the first time you play any of that licence holder’s games. For evoke this means two different things:
- The 888 sites: 888casino, 888sport, 888poker and 888.se are under the same company. If you have played on one of them, you should not expect a new welcome bonus on any of the others.
- Mr Green: has its own licensed company and is therefore not affected by what you have done at 888.
We have not found any specific guidance from Spelinspektionen on bonuses across several brands under the same licence, but the wording of the law ties the rule to the licence holder. If you play at an evoke casino, it is therefore the licensed company, not the brand, that decides whether a bonus is allowed. You can read more about how this works in our guide to bonus rules for Swedish casinos.
An example: you register at 888casino.se and accept the welcome bonus. A few weeks later you open an account at 888poker.se. Because both sites are run by 888 Sweden Limited, you have already played with that licence holder, and according to the wording of the law the company should then not offer you a new bonus. If you open an account at Mr Green instead, that is a different company, and the rule does not prevent an offer there.
A change of ownership at parent-company level does not in itself change who the licence holder is. Should Bally’s Intralot take over evoke, Mr Green Limited and 888 Sweden Limited would still be the licensed companies, as long as the brands are not moved to new companies.
Limits and self-exclusion
According to Mr Green’s website, its Green Gaming programme includes deposit, loss and time limits, an overview of your gambling habits, breaks and self-exclusion. There are also links to Spelpaus, the national self-exclusion register, and Stödlinjen, the helpline.
The deposit limit, which you must set per day, week and month, is set with each licensed company. Spelpaus, on the other hand, applies to every operator with a Swedish licence at once, so it covers both Mr Green and 888. You can reach Stödlinjen on 020-819 100.
Sister sites and other groups
On the page about Mr Green’s sister sites we compare Mr Green with the 888 sites from a brand perspective.
If you want to see how evoke compares with other owners, all the groups are gathered under gambling groups and networks.
Frequently asked questions
Which casinos does evoke own in Sweden?
evoke has two licence holders in Sweden: Mr Green Limited, which runs Mr Green, and 888 Sweden Limited, which runs 888casino, 888sport, 888poker and 888.se. We have not found a William Hill casino with a Swedish licence.
Are evoke and 888 the same company?
Yes. 888 Holdings changed its name to evoke plc during 2024. The 888 brand remains on the Swedish sites.
Do 888casino and 888sport share a bonus?
The four 888 sites are under the same licence holder, 888 Sweden Limited. Because the bonus rule applies per licence holder, you should not expect a new welcome bonus on one 888 site if you have already played on another.
Is Bally’s Intralot going to buy evoke?
The companies agreed on a takeover in June 2026, and the deal has been approved by shareholders on both sides. It is awaiting regulatory approvals and is expected to complete between the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.
Does Spelpaus apply at Mr Green and 888?
Yes. Spelpaus applies to every operator with a Swedish licence, so an exclusion covers both Mr Green and the 888 sites.
